Frontier Research is the Institute's long-horizon backlog. The purpose is not to decide whether a speculative technology exists in secret, nor to advocate for extraordinary claims. It is to map the path from speculation to realisation — identifying which discoveries, experiments, institutions, and engineering capabilities would be required for humanity to build each thing. The framework is the product; the topics are its inputs.
How to read a brief
Every topic is assessed through the same 15-point framework: concept overview; current scientific position; frontier questions; technological bottlenecks; research dependencies; required experiments; engineering requirements; adjacent technologies; institutional requirements; ethical and societal considerations; civilizational implications; timelines (10 / 25 / 50 / 100 / 250+ years); technology tree and dependencies; common misconceptions; and a flagged reading list. Every claim carries one of four honesty flags: Established Frontier Speculative Handwave.
